Services

Because of the shorter lifespan of our pets, we stress the importance of an annual physical examination. Thorough check-ups and preventive care can help alleviate serious health problems. Click here for tips on preparing your pet for an appointment. We offer a wide range of veterinary services to keep your companions feeling their best:
Routine care and vaccinations: We completely examine your pet during his/her annual vaccination visit in order to ensure your pet is healthy. Thorough examinations help us identify any early signs of disease that may otherwise go unnoticed.
We review vaccines and preventative measures with every pet owner so you may make an educated decision as to what specific preventative measures are warranted based your pet's particular environment and life style. Not all patients require the same vaccines and other preventative medications. We do not offer a "cookie cutter" approach to disease prevention. From vaccines, to intestinal parasites and heartworm prevention, we realize that each individual pet is faced with different risks. As such, the doctors and staff of WMAH work to continually help clients assess what preventative measures are warranted for each individual pet.
Diagnostic and Therapeutic Services: Our hospital is equipped to provide diagnostic and therapeutic services to care for your pets' complete health care needs. WMAH is equipped with the latest in diagnostic technology. Our repertoire includes an automated x-ray machine with automatic film processor, endoscopy, ultrasound, doppler blood pressure measurement, ocular tonometry, and telemedicine.
We have a fully equipped laboratory that gives us the capability to perform various blood and urine tests in less than an hour. When your pet is critically ill, we can get answers quickly and initiate treatment early in the course of the illness. We are one of a few hospitals in the area that also has the ability to evaluate blood gases and blood clotting ability on site.
Surgical Services: Our state-of-the-art surgical suite provides for the performance of a wide variety of surgical procedures. Wolf Merrick Animal Hospital offers all levels of surgery from spays and neuters, to major soft tissue surgery. For more complicated orthopedic, thoracic, and spinal surgeries, a board certified surgeon is available. See our Surgical FAQ's page for further explanation of our services.
Laser Surgery: Laser surgery is available for many surgical procedures, which significantly reduces bleeding and anesthesia time, and significantly reduces post-operative pain.
Spays & Neuters: We routinely perform spay and neuter surgical procedures. We perform laboratory screening of blood on all patients undergoing surgery, which includes a CBC (Complete Blood Count) and a pre-operative chemistry profile. All patients undergoing this type of surgery are given a pre-anesthetic pain medication and are prescribed the same to go home with after the procedure.
Patients are required to be hospitalized overnight for a spay (ovariohysterectomy), while neuter (castration) patients are released the same day in the evening. For the safety of other patients, your pet, and our staff, all pets are required to be current on core vaccinations in order to be admitted for these procedures.
Anesthesia: We use state-of-the-art equipment to monitor patients undergoing general anesthesia. We monitor blood pressure, cardiac conduction (ECG), pulse oximetry, and capnography. Intravenous catheters, fluids, and pumps are utilized for all major procedures. We are extremely successful with patients of all ages under anesthesia, and we truly feel that "no patient is ever too old for anesthesia".

Dentistry: WMAH has a full regimen of treatment for dental care including routine ultrasonic dental scaling and polishing to the use of a high-speed drill for complicated extractions and other dental procedures. We offer a variety of options to help promote and maintain your pet's dental health at home.
We also offer digital dental radiology as a part of our comprehensive dental care and treatment. Just as your dentist takes radiographs of your teeth, dental radiology also allows veterinarians the opportunity to look beyond the obvious and better examine teeth and their supporting structures below the gumline - exposing hidden, and often undiagnosed, problems.
Post Operative Pain Management: WMAH continually strives to provide the latest and most effective pain control for all of our patients that have undergone surgery. We believe that pain control should not be optional, and therefore, we will not perform any major surgery until pain control is addressed.
Radiology Services: Our on-site, modern X-ray equipment provides high quality digital radiographs to aid in the quick diagnosis of many disorders.
Electrocardiography Services: We provide ECG services on-site as well as consultations with cardiology specialists.
Pharmacy: We maintain a complete inventory of pharmaceuticals, vitamins, shampoos, flea and tick control products and heartworm preventatives to meet the needs of your pet. We also carry a full line of prescription diets. Refill requests can be made online here. We are associated with several compounding pharmacies that are able to produce a variety of difficult to find medications for pets with special medicinal needs.

Laboratory: Our in-house laboratory facilities provide for serum chemistry, hematology, serology, urinalysis and parasite testing. We also utilize commercial veterinary laboratories for specialized diagnostics and consultations.
Permanent identification: We offer microchip identification using HomeAgain. Our service includes implantation, HomeAgain's one time activation fee and the first year registration fees. Please learn more at HomeAgain.
Individualized Flea Control Programs: We develop programs for the specific needs of your pet and your own particular environmental situation. We will review with you the best ways to control fleas in your house, in your yard and on your pet.

WMAH has a Senior Wellness Program designed to thoroughly assess the health of your older pet in order to identify ailments or disease that might have otherwise gone unnoticed and untreated.
